Crochet market bag

Here’s my first finished object of the year, and it’s crochet for a change. My regular shopping bag is falling apart so hopefully this one will be a suitable replacement. I discovered it holds at least five sweaters so volume capacity shouldn’t be a problem. (Sweaters as a unit of measurement… I like that.)

There are a bunch of patterns for crochet bags with a similar construction, I chose this Market Bag pattern because I liked how it was designed to be rolled up into a little ball when not in use. In the end I modified the straps so that won’t really work anymore, clever me, but I just know I’m not going to use a bag that I can’t slide onto my shoulder.

It was satisfyingly quick to make and I used exactly 2 skeins of some very old Hema cotton yarn that I got at a queen’s day market a long time ago – a very Dutch project.
